Szlomo Horowitz
Translated from the Polish original.

While describing the story of the photograph of the Jewish Horowitz family in highlander dress, we also received from Ms Kristina Horowitz Krakus a photograph of her uncle, the youngest brother of her father Chaim. But this is not another family photograph: it shows a young soldier in military uniform.
In the “highlander” photograph Szlomo is the smallest of the boys. He must have been about five or six then; according to Ms Kristina he was born in 1915 or 1916. On the day the Second World War broke out he was therefore 24 or 25.
Sadly, we do not know what he did in his childhood and youth, what his trade was or where he worked, or whether he had a fiancée or a wife. But when mobilisation was announced, he reported to the army and fought for his homeland in the uniform of the Polish Army. According to Ms Kristina’s recollections, her uncle Szlomo was killed in the first days of the September campaign.
We thank Ms Kristina Horowitz Krakus for the information and photographs.
